Purchased by VOLF to preserve the spectacular view for the public, this is the site of a former radar station that was active up until the 1950's. The Foundation removed the run-down buildings. The town helped financially by purchasing a conservation restriction. In 1992 the Martha's Vineyard Land Bank purchased an adjacent 71.6 acres and the town purchased a nearby 20 acre parcel. Today the area has public walking trails courtesy of the Land Bank which can be accessed off Tabor House Road. Start at the intersection of Middle Road and Tabor House Road, proceed up Tabor House for 0.5 miles and turn left onto a dirt road. Once on the dirt road proceed 0.7 miles bearing right at each intersection. This property was deeded to the Town of Chilmark in 1999 for management.
